This is the place to write anything and everything about life in the sweet spot. What works, what doesn’t and how doing good, being nice and having fun has changed your life … or not. Thanks.

Rats. Missed that window to heaven.

You got here just in time for the Rapture. I can’t guarantee your bumper stickers will arrive because I could be toast tomorrow.
January 1st, 2011 at 9:06 am
Sent out more than 500 stickers in 2010! Happy new year!
September 5th, 2010 at 10:59 am
In response to global demand, we have created a new bumper sticker, shown at the right. Stickers are available for free. Just sent a stamped envelope with your address and we will get them right to you. If you’d like more than one, please ask.

Nice site. A good, simple idea. Thanks.

Being the all knowing is easy. The tough part is when you have to figure out which parts to share.

This makes me feel really happy!! I think people make everything so complicated in life and I feel overwhelmed sometimes. Religion, politics, philosophy be darned, just do good, be nice, and have fun!! I love nice people!

Piggynap,
Sounds like he should get to be Jesus this month.

My boyfriend’s just embarked on a random act of kindness month – sounds like you guys have a lot in common at the mo

WWJD? Hmmmm.
Lately I’ve been wondering more about Who Would Jesus BE? That’s where it gets kinda interesting.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
What would I do?
I would do good, be nice and have fun.
What would YOU do?
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
James,
Listening to your radio show. I cant help but feel like the book hasn’t ended and that the story is playing out in real life. Waiting for someone to call in and argue about DGBNHF and how good, nice and fun you need to be.

It’s time for rich people to get busy and turn this economy around. Seriously.
February 24th, 2009 at 5:40 am
I had to ban a person from one of my other blogs last night. He was behaving like a jerk. I know from personal experience exactly what jerks behave like. It’s not pretty. Banning him wasn’t fun, either.

Speaking of fun, here’s a fresh way to think about cooking, from the Economist.

A friend told me once that sarcasm is the most destructive of all art forms. I tend to agree, which is why I work so hard to steer clear of it. It’s not easy. Sarcasm can slip into a conversation before you even know it.

Now if I can just find the one that brung me!
Thanks for stopping by, Nancy. It’s nice to see another name pop into this little corner of the crazy blogoworld.
February 20th, 2009 at 10:26 am
I say, add “Dance with the one that brung you” somewhere in that, and you have it ALL.
February 20th, 2009 at 8:33 am
Word of the day. (It’s a good one.)
February 19th, 2009 at 6:45 am
An almost interesting discussion about being nice in the blogosphere. Too bad the “expert” isn’t.
February 18th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Spent two hours today on a conference call with a jerk. My commitment to “be nice” was put to the test, and I passed. I’m not sure about the “fun” part, though. I was mostly grinding my teeth.
February 17th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
I realized recently that I’m married to a woman who can have fun brushing her teeth. No wonder I feel like a stick in the mud.

Feeling a little nihilist today. Reminded of my favorite John Mellencamp album: Nothing matters, and what if it did.

A discussion of lies in relation to Do Be Have. Some interesting stuff.
February 15th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Joe:
Do good: Sadly, you did not do good (well, you did not “do well”) with your poor grammar and spelling.
Be nice: That was not nice guy. You need to work on that a bit. Come on – it’s not that hard!
Have fun: Well, I suppose you might be having some perverse fun with your flame, but there are lots more ways to have fun that flaming! I mean, I could have responded by suggesting you have fun by playing “dodge-car”, but as fun as that might have been, it would not have been nice. So, try having fun by taking your dog out for a walk (look both ways before crossing the street), or petting your cat until it purrs, or maybe even something that does not involve 4-legged pets!

I don’t know any more. The past few days have brought too much anger and frustration. All three threads dissipate in that crazed state of mind.
This is what we call a bummer.
February 14th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
For some reason, I can’t stop thinking about Unitarians! This seems like such a good fit for that wonderful denomination (or whatever they call themselves). Good. Nice. Fun. What could be better than that?
February 13th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
John (not my brother),
Maybe you should try reading this. Or at least these.
February 13th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
there is no sweet spot. i tried it today and all i got was a headache. jesus slaves.
February 12th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Having a hard time having fun today. Work is piling up everywhere. My brother had heart surgery and is slipping into clinical depression. It’s proving difficult to whistle while I work.

You can get T-shirts!

Still working on getting more art in there but it’s a start.
Share the threads!

Teeshirts! You should do teeshirts!
This just screams to be a teeshirt!

A long discussion yesterday about the sweet spot in relation to joining a Support Team for a friend with cancer. One team member said, “How can that be fun?” Another said, “Duh. Our friend could really use some fun right now. It BETTER be fun or it’ll be too damn depressing.
Do good. Check.
Be nice. Check
Have fun? Let’s hope so.

Yikes! saw that video you posted when I wandered over from work, where I have to be careful. You cannot imagine the thoughts that went through my mind when I saw that picture in the video frame.
Finally, I got a chance to drop in from home and check it out, OMG. Thanks for the belly laugh!
February 2nd, 2009 at 6:21 am
Thanks for posting that video. I did that about 1 week after reading your book. I just felt i needed to “share the threads”. This concept really is as empowering as it is simple. Aim for the sweet spot. Always be aiming for the sweet spot.
PS. I challenge anyone to make a response video. If you do, we will post it to the Cause page for DGBNHF in Facebook for all the members to see and share.

It occurs to me that Do good, be nice, have fun, could be considered the summation of years of spiritual study and practice. I’d say I wish I saw the bumper sticker first, but then I would have just said, “Yeah, but….”
Nice to be Yummming with you again.
January 30th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
I haven’t read that book in a long time … I’ll have to go back and check it out. Though I do confess to Robbins having had a big influence on my approach to fiction.
Thanks for the post!
January 30th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
It ocurrs to me that “Yummmmmm” is the chant of the woodpecker bomber in Tom Robbins’ _Still Life with Woodpecker_.
January 30th, 2009 at 7:39 am
Very nice. Thanks, Jabber.

I adopted DGBNHF motto years ago when James first invented it and “Jesus Swept” was a tiny blimp on his radar.
It’s one of those “Yes we can!” sort of things. The more you say it, the more you become it. It lifts you up – never lets you down. Contentment trots right along with you when you breath the words in and exhale them out.
Try it! You’ll like it! Join the evolution!
January 30th, 2009 at 6:30 am
Years ago one of my nephews visited with us for a week. At the time, our family had a tradition of chanting the Buddhist “aummmmmmm” as a kind of grace before meals. The nephew thought we were saying “yummmmmmmm.”
So now we do say “yummmmmmmm” before our meals, in as many parts harmony as there are people around the table. Try it! It’s really fun.

Yesterday I was having a blog war with another writer, a person I don’t know. He’s a flamer, from what I can tell. And for a few minutes, testosterone welled up inside me, pushing me into full-fledged attack mode.
Then I looked to my wall where the Venn diagram is pinned to the sheetrock. That’s all the reminder I needed to call a truce, apologize, and back away from the edge.
Be nice is a tough one sometimes.
